Goodnight Mister Tom
Presented by Rutland Arts Theatre Society
Evacuated to the English countryside just before the start of World War II William Beech is entrusted into the care of the elderly and reclusive widower Tom Oakley.
William has troubled adjusting to village life at first, but as he makes friends with other children in the area and begins to feel safe with Tom the unlikely pair gradually build a strong bond together.
Just as everything appears to be settled William is summoned back to his neglecting and abusive mother in London and it’s unclear whether Tom will ever see him again.
After several weeks pass with no sign of a letter from William, Tom becomes increasingly concerned for his welfare he sets off to London in search of him.
Michelle Magorian’s classic wartime story has been re-imaged for the stage by David Wood to bring you a moving tale of discovery, loss and friendship.
